Inkwell
Inkwell is a volunteer project. I work as a project manager, managing a team of 10+ volunteers spread across the globe. We are currently in the website design phase of the project.
Inkwell is an e-book website, which provides affordable and accessible educational e-book resources to countries with limited resources. Inkwell has plans for hosting publisher’s e-books in the future. But for MVP-1 we are focused on creating a platform that hosts free educational e-book resources to empower individuals and communities to take control of their education and achieve their full potential.
My role and responsibilities at Inkwell:
Developed a clear and compelling narrative that communicates the purpose, goals, and potential impact of the Inkwell project.
Emphasized the importance of addressing the educational challenges in developing countries and how volunteers can make a meaningful contribution.
Clearly outlined the specific roles and responsibilities needed for the project, including web development, content curation, outreach, social media management, and project coordination.
Ensured that each role contributes to the overall objectives of the project.
Developed a plan that outlined where and how to recruit volunteers. Considered online platforms, social media, educational forums, and community organizations.
Collaborated with the team of writers to spread the word about Inkwell on LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.
Leveraged social media and started Inkwell’s medium blog to reach a broad audience.
Wrote articles for Inkwell’s medium blog about overcoming the challenges in remote team management.
Hosted weekly team meetings to discuss progress, address challenges, and foster a sense of community.
Utilized project management tools and communication platforms for efficient collaboration.
Set up communication channels on Discord for current as well as prospective volunteers to express interest and learn more about the project.
Put together a Notion for documenting clear contact information as well as for early documentation of the UX research and for taking meeting notes.
Developed Loom Video Tutorials that helped volunteers understand their roles and responsibilities.
Acknowledged and celebrated the achievements of volunteers.
Established a system through Discord channels recognizing individual and team contributions, fostering a positive and motivating environment.
Set clear milestones and deadlines for the project.
Regularly assessed progress, identify any potential issues and adjust plans accordingly.
Fostered a collaborative and supportive team culture where volunteers felt valued and connected to the project's mission.
Encouraged team members to share ideas, resources, and best practices.
